"When it comes to self defense, it is better to have the power and not need it than to need it and not have it."

Everything you need to know

We do not promote tournament fighting, complex choreography, or false confidence. Our focus is helping you recognize danger early, establish firm boundaries, protect yourself when needed, and get away safely.

Do I need to be in shape or have martial arts experience?

No prior experience or high level of physical fitness is required. Our beginner-friendly curriculum is built to adapt to your current physical abilities. You will learn at a progressive, manageable pace with techniques that leverage leverage and natural body mechanics rather than brute strength.

How does self-defense differ from traditional martial arts?

Traditional martial arts center on sport rules, forms, belt rankings, and long-term mastery. Real-world self-defense is focused purely on survival and avoidance: recognizing threat cues early, setting boundaries, escaping grabs, striking to create space, and leaving the situation safely without staying to fight.

Will I have to fight or spar with other students in class?

No. You will not be thrown into uncontrolled sparring or forced to fight. Students practice fundamental strikes and escape motions on pads, shields, and with supportive partners in safe, highly controlled drills designed to build confidence without injuries.

What core techniques are covered during the course?

You will learn proactive situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, establishing spatial boundaries, essential strikes (palms, elbows, knees), releases from common wrist grabs and body holds, ground recovery, and immediate escape tactics.

Who is this course best suited for?

This course is designed for adults and college students across Murfreesboro. It is particularly valuable for individuals who travel alone, walk across campus or parking decks, work late hours, use rideshare services, or simply want practical tools to feel confident and alert in everyday life.

What should I wear and bring to training sessions?

Wear comfortable, practical athletic or gym clothing and supportive athletic shoes. You will participate in ground movements and realistic physical drills, so choose attire you can move freely in. Don't forget a water bottle and a willingness to learn.

What is the core philosophy behind your training?

Our core philosophy follows four clear principles: Recognize, Decide, Act, and Escape. The best defense is avoiding danger entirely. When physical force is unavoidable, the goal is never to stay and fight, but to break contact immediately and escape to safety.

How is the 10-hour course structured?

The 10-hour format balances foundational mental awareness with hands-on physical skills. It breaks down critical concepts into digestible segments that allow you to practice, build muscle memory, and test realistic responses under safe, managed stress. This is why we have chosen to do this in 5 2hour blocks of traing, so we dont overwhem any of out students
